The truth has taken quite a beating over the last several years. Rush Limbaugh claims he's just entertaining folks while he tries mightily to convince them of the absolute truth of whatever talking points he is peddling that day.
Bill Moyers and TDS both have to disguise truth as comedy in order hold their places in the ratings game.
News organizations like CBS and the BBC spend years reporting the truth yet when suckered with one false story get forever labeled as liars and tools of the Left.
(More after the break.)
With the advent of the Internet the truth has become besieged by slander and rumor disseminated with incredible speed and ease. And while there is only one truth there are innumerable lies. Truth is outnumbered.
We have watched in the past as humble men with an honest and abiding belief in a being greater than man have made a stand at the pulpits of small, poor and humble churches, standing unafraid before those in need of such belief, expressing that belief. These men spoke the truth as they knew it. There is no doubt. They still speak it. But what of the pastors of the mega churches with their coffee shops, bookstores and arcades, and what of the televangelists?.
They attend seminars; training courses in how to increase their flock size, improve their cash flow. They fly in private jets to stadiums and arenas to offer salvation to teeming crowds of True Believers and those who want to become such, crowds of people who simply do not know why they exist, and want nothing more desperately than for someone to tell them why, to provide them with a reason, any reason. Are the wealthy men standing on the podium exhorting the crowd with such theatrically trained voices and practiced mannerisms truly men of God, or are they men of Mammon? The truth is we do not know. We cannot tell. Instead of being the centerpiece of such occasions the truth itself has been hidden behind an array of bright lights, inspirational music and fervent exhortation, at $25 a head.
These days of insanity when we truly cannot tell a straight news story from a spoof in the Onion are not the best of times for the truth. It has taken a beating like none before. There has always been spin and twist, lies and liars, cons and hustlers, but no matter how dark the days, no matter how deeply it has been buried, there has always been some way in which the truth has found its way back to a level playing field, always in those darkest hours of human existence. It has welled up from the collective gut of all decent people and found its way back into the light of day, our day. It has cleansed itself of the taint and smear of the lies and liars over and over.
Its time has come again. The gut from which it must well is yours. Please speak the truth. Do so with humility, but do so with certainty. Do not be embarrassed. Do not be afraid. We need you.
