Hey, someone help me out. I took this note down when I heard OberGruppen Rumsfeld speak. I thought he said, "We're leaving. As you know, you Iraqis will have to provide security to the Iraqi nation with the Iraqi Army you have. Not the Iraqi Army you might want or wish to have at a later time."
BUT, checking my notes, I think I might have gotten it wrong.
From 2003: Total numbers of security forces are on the rise in Iraq as 118,000 Iraqi troops have assumed their duties alongside coalition forces, according to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. In a series of media interviews November 10, Rumsfeld stressed the importance of the Iraqi forces in bringing security to Iraq.
From 2004:
As you know, you go to war with the Army you have. They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time." -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld
From Nov 2005: Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said
Sunday he does not know when the United States will have trained enough
Iraqis so they can adequately secure the country and begin replacing
American troops now helping provide protection.
Hmmm. I could have misheard.
