I've been following the news on the recent testimony by the oil executives. Looks like they lied to congress last week when asked if they "helped" Cheney with his task force.
In my search I found this tidbit. Turns out that Governor Jim Doyle of Wisconsin has subpeonaed the same oil execs.
MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Jim Doyle on Monday subpoenaed executives from the nation's five largest oil companies to appear at a hearing and answer questions about soaring gasoline and natural gas prices after Hurricane Katrina.
More below the fold...
He wants to know why oil is so expensive. So would I.
I didn't realize that govonors had that kind of power. If so, it's cool. But it does seem to bring up states rights vs. federal rights and unrestricted commerce questions. (I'll let the lawyers sort it out)
The lying part is supported by this WaPo article which I referenced last night in this diary.
I'm on a, hopefully-ending, journey to tie Plame's outing to Cheney's energy policy. I firmly believe that the whole Iraq mess is a result of the "energy policy" developed by Cheney and his oil buddies. I also think that Plame (or the CIA in general) was on the verge of gaining some key information that would tie Cheney, his oil buddies, and the energy policy to the bogus "intelligence."
Frankly, I don't fully buy into the "revenge" aspect of the Wilson/Plame outing. There is no money in revenge. There is however, money in oil and if Cheney or his buddies felt threatened, they'd do what they could to nip that threat in the bud...
Oh and my previous conclusion still stands:
When Push comes to shove, I think we will learn that Cheney is the "brains" behind the Plame outing. But really he's the brains of an "energy policy" designed to keep us dependent on oil while enriching the stockholders of Exxon and the other oil companies.
(Ok why do I feel like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory - no one believes me, my walls are coated with tin-foil, and rigged to explode. I better not purchase a copy of Catcher in the Rye. And why isn't Julia Roberts helping me? :-)
