(This is the post I'm putting up on Phillybits for any regular readers (as few as they may be), local readers, PhillyFuture RSS readers, etc but I've decided to cross-post here for all my friends here at Dailykos, especially those in the Philly area. Any regards to "this blog" are, of course, to my personal blog.)
Inspired by Richard Cranium's title to his latest
post, I decided to write about my own "fork in the road."
Anyone who has followed this blog for some time, or who knows me personally, knows that my girlfriend and I are expecting a baby. The due date was @ December 14th, but after yesterday, that date has changed.
We received an ultrasound yesterday that showed our baby, while receiving plenty of oxygen, who's active like a healthy, bouncy womb-based boy should be, appears to not be receiving the level of nutrition he should be, especially if he's going to stay in the womb for the full 9 months.
My girlfriend has a two-vessel cord and the biggest concerns are birth defects from early on, and from the best of my knowledge, what we are experiencing now which is a late-term nutritional concern. There are no birth defects, no problems with the baby himself and to calm everyone down, the baby is doing perfectly fine and is safe and is in no type of immediate danger.
The neonatologist consulted with my girlfriend's doctors after the ultrasound yesterday and made the call that they'd like to get the baby out as early as next week. We'll find out more information on Monday.
In terms of a fork in the road, either way, whenever the baby comes out, I will most likely be quite busy between school, work, and caring for a newborn. I don't know how much time I will have to devote to posting to Phillybits, something I'm certainly upset by, but resigned to, since I will have a new responsibilty that trumps any thoughts I have in terms of politics. I will publish what I can, when I can, but it would be my guess that there will be a considerable drop off in activity here, at least for the immediate future.
In place of Phillybits, and if possible depending on the type of free time we may have, we'd like to work on and create a baby-blog of sorts, as more of a genuine on-line journal. Phillybits won't be going away, nor will it be replaced; it won't be receiving the level of attention and daily posts I try to get up, though.
Rest assured we'll still be here, reading, watching, hoping, and supporting Democratic and liberal groups, causes, and movements. Until we get a new blog up for the baby, I'll be updating here when I can so certainly check in from time to time to hear the latest news.
I don't want to say goodbye, or so long, so how about...see you in a little bit?
Thanks everyone.
