Ok.. this is one of the more bizarre things I've read in a long list of bizarro stories emanating from this administration... apparently no one down there checks if anything is underneath their missile trajectory when running tests:
All offshore oil platforms on the Grand Banks off Newfoundland are being evacuated before a U.S. missile test that could shower the area with debris. The U.S. air force will launch a Titan IV rocket on Monday from Cape Canaveral. The debris – including a 10-tonne solid rocket booster – is expected to fall near the Hibernia platform.
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams said he and federal officials are attempting to persuade the U.S. air force to delay the launch of the rocket, or to change its trajectory.
Grand Banks Oil Platforms Evacuated over US Missile Test
Can someone remind the US administration that Canada is your largest supplier of oil, and that debris falling on oil platforms is a bad thing? :)
Update [2005-4-7 16:55:2 by tribe34]: The US has apparently agreed to indefinitely delay the test after Newfoundland and Canadian officals reacted strongly to Washington in what is being called a "diplomatic scramble"
