An organization called
Voter GA is filing suit in my home state of Georgia against electronic voting machines. They are trying to force the state to follow portions of the Georgia Constitution and Georgia Election Code that protect voter rights against unverifiable voting technology.
They've found a lawyer, but need some money to pay him. Can we get some assistance from the Kossacks?
From their
press release:
ATLANTA, GA - A new, diverse, non-partisan coalition of Georgia voters announced today that it will file a lawsuit on behalf of all nine million current and future Georgia voters to seek relief from Georgia's existing implementation of electronic voting. Representatives of the group, known as VoterGA, explained that current statewide voting cannot be verified, audited or recounted. They contend that because no direct physical evidence of voter intent is ever captured by the machines, fraud and errors are now virtually undetectable statewide.
VoterGA retained Walker Chandler to represent what they believe are the interests of all Georgians. Chandler is a former Libertarian Attorney General candidate who has already won a U.S. Supreme Court decision against the state for unreasonable search and seizure violations of the 4th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
And from their front page:
Our suit will seek three basic objectives that most any Georgia voter would expect in an election. These are to:- Require that any technology used in Georgia must either be able to read or produce ballots as required by the Georgia Constitution;
- Provide for public, precinct level counting of votes to ensure that the machines tallied the votes correctly as required by Georgia Election Code.
- Stipulate in the event of similar discrepancies across precincts in a given race, that the state manually recount that race at no cost to the candidates or parties involved
We must raise thousands of dollars in the next 30 days to prepare a legal brief. To help start this effort, a donor has already agreed to match dollar for dollar the initial funds that citizens of Georgia are willing to contribute to our Voting Rights Defense Fund through this site. That means each dollar you contribute is worth two dollars to this cause. In addition, we can offer a special gift for contributions of $100 or more.
This looks like a worthwhile plan, and I'm going to support it with a few dollars of my own. Can I get some others to join me? Contribute Here
