Bush speech to detail his 'strategy for victory'
"President Bush will detail for an increasingly skeptical public today what his administration is calling significant progress in Iraq that will lead to U.S. troops coming home.
"I want our troops to come home, but I don't want them to come home without having achieved victory. And we've got a strategy for victory," Bush said Tuesday, previewing a speech at the U.S. Naval Academy that will launch a major effort to resell Americans on the need to stay the course in Iraq.
Taking a swipe at critics such as Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., who recently called for a prompt withdrawal of U.S. forces, Bush said, "It'd be a terrible mistake. It sends a bad message to our troops, and it sends a bad message to our enemy, and it sends a bad message to the Iraqis."
But he isn't expected to give specifics when a pullout might start..."
