This, my first diary, is something I need to share about bi-polar disease. My son was diagnosed with Bi-polar disease in the ER of a hospital where I had taken him when he was acting sick and strangely. I begged them to at least take an x-ray. They said his symptoms didn't warrant it nor a cat-scan. They told me to take him to a mental health facility. It turned out, after I took him back in the next few days,a surgeon happened to be in the ER and had a scan done and found he had a glio-blastoma....a brain tumor. My son died. He was 33.
I found out one can have a cat-scan to absolutely diagnose whether one has bi-polar. Every doctor with whom I've discussed this says everyone should have this done rather than being diagnosed by questionaires. I'm certainly no expert but maybe there are those out there who are and can give more advice.
We've had three people in our family die of brain tumors. I just wonder how many people are taking medications that aren't bi-polar. I wonder why so many people have bi-polar disease these days. I wonder how many are being mis-diagnosed.....taking those medications is serious business. One should know for sure with the MRI....brain imaging.
