A lot of Democrats are
still afraid to come out openly and clearly against the unprovoked Iraq Invasion & Military Occupation.
The appeal of the tag-line: "the World is better off without Saddam Hussein" seems to freeze the thought process along with abstract promises of "Democracy" and "freedom" (even as we are caught in episodes of random torture that would make Hussein himself blush).
Well, some talking points are in order here to help slay the dragon of the anti-Hussein, pro-fear, pro-War, propaganda that was used to
sell this fraud and human butchery:
- No, the World would be better off with U.N. Weapons Inspections and the lives of 2300 of our own kids and tens of thousands of innocent civilians restored.
- No, the World would be better off without worse case senarios which is what an Military Invasion is. Saddam Hussein had been contained & monitored for a decade and was in no position to present a threat of any kind to the United States. This reckless killing and bloodshed was not ever necessary as there was no imminent threat ever shown and it has inflamed anger & hatred against the United States -- not made us any "safer".
- No, the world is not better off with Iraq and it's borders made unstable and now a breeding ground for Islamic Terrorists (where is was not under the secular government of Hussein).
- You don't start a war based on hypothetical "what ifs" and myth-making even in a post 9-11 world. This is a violation of the Geneva Conventions, International Law, and a flagrant, criminal abuse of human rights.
- The real threat to our national security was Al Qeada & Bin Laden. This War never addressed that fundamental threat!! If we focused on that threat we would be better off than having launched this unnecessary War on Iraq.
