I have been concerned with politics, religion, science, and pretty much anything else in the world for as long as I could hit some pots and pans and beg my parents for a drum set. But I have to say, being 28 years old, moderately educated, and have traveled to 47 of the 50 states and 17 countries, I am really unimpressed with the state of humanity. We are not a very intelligent species.
This, for me, is illustrated with the most recent "Intelligent Design" trial. What I walk away with after everything I have read, (and I read every post on DKos today on the topic) watched, and listened to, is that Humanity, on a social level, is extremely immature and stupid!
The Scopes trial was almost 100 years ago. Look at how far humanity has evolved. The masses of this country still uphold 14th century ideology and mysticism in complete contrast to huge leaps in our understanding of the universe and our place in it.
Ultimately I am left to conclude that Humanity as a whole would rather base their life and believes about the world on mythical stories written by people who would consider a wheel barrel a technological feat.
It's really sad. And I feel that all of this dialogue is a waste of time because we will not make a diffenrce that really matters because the people perpetuating this ideology are in the majority and don't have to, nor will, listen or read any of this stuff.
They are closed minded people with cold hearts and empty souls, which survive through intimidation and lies. And they represent the majority and ruling class in our society, and the world.
So I read about the Intelligent Design trial and put the paper down befoe the end of the aticle because ID is not the problem, nor is Bush the problem, nor is the NYT. The problem is with our icredibly selfishes and limited view of the universe and Humanity in general.
We have a very very long way to come, and right now after the last 5 years, it seeems to me we are just adding more years, not subtracting them.
