Impeachment? Of course. But what about the next step? What about members of this administration and its minions being tried for treason.
His crimes include how he was selected, outing a CIA agent, sacrificing lives and money in a war based on lies and more. His latest assault with domestic illegal spying and bragging to continue this illegal activity are his most recent transgressions. But lets not forget the other crimes.
Treason requires an admission in open court or two witnesses. For many of the offenses against the United States, its Citizen and its Constitution there are numerous witnesses.
None Dare Call It Treason
In the December 12 ruling by the US Supreme Court handing the election to George Bush, the Court committed the unpardonable sin of being a knowing surrogate for the Republican Party instead of being an impartial arbiter of the law. If you doubt this, try to imagine Al Gore's and George Bush's roles being reversed and ask yourself if you can conceive of Justice Antonin Scalia and his four conservative brethren issuing an emergency order on December 9 stopping the counting of ballots (at a time when Gore's lead had shrunk to 154 votes) on the grounds that if it continued, Gore could suffer "irreparable harm," and then subsequently, on December 12, bequeathing the election to Gore on equal protection grounds.
Some Dare Call It Treason...
Donald Luskin on Paul Krugman and Valerie Plame on NRO Financial: Paul Krugman, America's most dangerous liberal pundit, has made a statement in his Times column today which... [is] an extraordinarily serious allegation, tantamount to accusing Bush administration officials of treason: "...Bush administration officials have exposed the identity of a covert operative."
None Dare Call it Treason
And we have sacrificed 2,000 of our young people's lives, forever broken the bodies of 20,000 more, killed more than 100,000 Iraqis, spent more than 200 billion dollars with no end in sight, brought shame and dishonor upon the country and won the contempt and anger of the whole world precisely why? They told us that the reason was to stop the development of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in the Middle East.
These are Blair's last days
The troops were told the war was both legal and unavoidable. We now know it was neither. They were promised a warm welcome by "liberated" Iraqis. Red-hot and razor-sharp has been the reality. This is treason - and it hasn't prospered.
Bush Must Go!
For once, our House of Representatives must stand and be counted. They must immediately draft articles of impeachment. The Senate must, for the first time in modern times, do the right thing and convict Bush on those articles. This must be done NOW. There are plenty of reasons, good and sufficient, meeting the test of the Constitutional mandate of "high crimes." I have recounted merely a few of them today.
The president claims there is a war. And he is right. He is waging a war on us, our constitution and our country.
