Reassuring to see I am on the same wavelength as 47 percent of Daily Kos visitors. On the basis of this poll I have resolved to dedicate 2006 to finding out more about listening devices - and diarise it live.
In the meantime I have dissembled my listening device...
No pliers required (but thank you Sancho Panza for the suggestion).
My listening device is easily dissembled by pushing down a "plunger" type fixture on the end, whereupon it springs apart in three pieces. There are two tiny tiny springs inside the casing and a little flat round thing about the width of a pinhead on the end of one spring which
could be a miniature battery (or else the larger silver drum is the battery?). RB suggests that a batteryless device might mean "a passive device that needs to be scanned at close range to work... i.e. a merchandise control RFID tag". Hmm. It would appear my device has a battery (not an RFID tag?).
Click here to see picture of listening device dissembled (at this point my camera ran down on power - hence spring and tiny little round thing are a little out of focus, if you have sharp eyes or good concentration you probably can see them).
As you can imagine I have been doing quite a bit of reading about listening devices, but as yet my listening device remains un-positively identified (model and make, origin etc). Suggestions from interested parties so far:
A merchandise control RFID tag.
A 50 Ohm terminator for the coax.
A coaxial coupler for cable TV connections.
A connector. One side USB, the other side P2.
A comparative suggestion.
What do you think? My listening device is only 36mm long when fully assembled. There is a picture of it (fully assembled) here.
UPDATE: Everyone who is clicking on picture links that won't work - not sure what is the prob, could be interference? One moment, will try posting them as direct-load images:
Phew, thanks for help No One No Where. And remember, to auto-load pictures follow patrioticliberals directions. (Right click on the X, view properties. Copy the image link and open it in IE. Load it. Then hit back. It should display in the page. If you are a firefox user right click on the icon, chose "view image" and release your finger).
