I wonder how much better-behaved our government would be if we staged (at least) annual rememberences of how 'things used to be' including fake gallows and public stocks. We would have these "Torchlight Parades" in every county seat, state capitol, and of course Washington DC.
The main idea would be to have fun while at the same time, keeping alive this idea that the people ultimately run a society.
Key figures would be expected to be put on Mock Trials in front of their electorate. Most of it would be more like a Roast, where plenty of tongue in cheek prodding is the theme and there's much cause for merriment because our just leader would have maybe a minute or two of prodding for her or his transgressions against their published intent and stances on key issues. Of course if there was a major transgression, it would be more and more of a trial, and the people would decide where to take it from there.
This way, we would have sort of an annual 'ordeal' which would test the nerve and fibre of our elected and selected officials. It would remind them they are a person, like everyone else. And that they too are not beyond reproach.
There would be a lot of costuiming and street theater. Children would have fun, while learning and getting to know who is in charge of what, and how things run on the civic level.
They've managed to already ruin our educational system. How about we party our way to a better representative government?
