I like the Sydney Morning Herald. They often have articles about the U.S. from a different perspective than is given stateside. (Registration is required for some articles but it is free.)
Dick Morris and spouse apparently have this to say in their new book:
If the thought of another Clinton presidency excites you, then the future looks bright. Hillary Clinton is on a virtually uncontested trajectory to win the Democratic nomination and, very likely, the 2008 election.
"Very likely"? Oh come now, Dick Morris doesn't believe that.
But her victory is not inevitable. There is one, and only one, figure who can stop Hillary Rodham Clinton: the Secretary of State, Condoleezza "Condi" Rice. Among all of the possible Republican candidates, Rice alone could win the nomination, defeat Hillary and derail a third Clinton administration.
Huh? I have to ask: What planet is Dick living on these days? Rice alone could win the Repug nom and defeat Hillary? That strikes me as very strange. What about McCain? I don't have much respect for him after watching him kiss Bush's ass after being slimed by Bush's henchmen, but I think he is far more electable than Rice.
Truthfully, I don't think America is ready to elect a woman as president. (I'm not sure when it will be ready to elect a non-white president.) Many women who have become the leaders of their respective countries did so in parliamentary systems where they were not voted in directly by the voters. And although I once thought that America would have a woman and/or non-white president in my lifetime, with the growth of the fundies, I'm no longer so sure. I hope I'm wrong. I wonder what others think.
Anyway, go read the excerpt; it's pretty amusing. What makes Dick think he knows whom Democrats will vote for? What makes him think he knows anything?
