It was brought to my attention while responding to a diary earlier this morning that there is a self-perpetuated myth surrounding the Republican Party that needs desperately to be debunked. It is my belief that the heavenly mandates declared by many high ranking republican officials are of a much more sinister nature than they are credited with. It would be bad enough if they did in fact believe they have a mandate from God, I contend that not only do they have no such mandate, they don't believe they do, they don't believe such a thing exists.

An ultra conservative religious fervor is the greatest myth perpetuated by the high- powered Republican elite. The myth is not that they are in fact God's chosen ones, but that they believe they are. The Big Secret of the ultra conservative right wing is that they are by in large as Godless a bunch as they accuse the most extreme left wingers of being. I don't simply mean in the hypocrisy that governs their lives, I mean in an absolute atheistic way.
Selling themselves as God fearing, as the religious side of the political spectrum was a calculated move of genius proportion. This was the only way to forge a connection between them and the poor, rural America whose votes they required to propel themselves to the top positions in U.S. government.
Many people seem confused by the blatant hypocrisy with which the Republican Party governs. Have they no consciences? Well yes, actually they do. They are not absent an internal guiding light, which they regard in decision-making. The problem is that their true personal values are in conflict with their public image.
While there are no doubt individual exceptions, the religious vigor of the Republican Party is on the whole a lie, a lie that must be exposed in order to regain legitimate control of the country for the masses. People of faith are not served by the Republican administration, they are raped by it.
It is not enough to simply point out the hypocrisies of the party, the dichotomy of words and action.
It is imperative to make public the devious nature of their religious proclamations. It is bad form to use one's religious beliefs for political advantage, but to exploit the religious beliefs of a group of people in a false alliance is absolute blasphemy.
It is this abuse of religion and exploitation of the religious by the Republican Party that must be made public.
