Hello, folks,
I'm sure many of you saw
this post by Steve Soto this morning:
Democrats Return To Their Districts To Educate Constituents On Bush's Social Security Lies
The Post has an excellent story this morning on how the congressional Democrats are learning from past mistakes and going back into their districts over the coming President's Day weekend to hold town hall meetings. The purpose of these meetings? To set the record straight about Social Security.
More after the jump.
Steve is praising this sort of activism, and I am, too. It's exactly what we need to be doing.
So, I contacted Nancy Pelosi's office this afternoon, asking what the blogosphere can do to help with this effort and others. Here is what I got back, as an FYI for anyone who wants to help out:
I am very interested in increasing coordination between the Congressional Dems who will be leading policy efforts and forumation, and blogs who can bring to bear the power of the grassroots.
The moral of the story is that I think it would be wonderful if we'd participate in the townhall meetings effort this weekend -- covering them, disseminating talking points, "real-world" stuff like letters to the editor, distributing flyers, etc.
It sounds like Congressional Dems are receptive to our efforts. We should offer our help. This is a major opportunity to both forge better working relationships with Congressional Democrats, demonstrate what we can do and to help turn Social Security reform into a liability for the Republicans.
