So, they think telling a joke that the Congressional Black Caucus found funny is offensive to African-Americans, let's give them a debate. They opened the doors - let's walk right in. Let's discuss how African-Americans are doing in Bush's America. Here are some questions I wish the media would ponder over and over again:
How do the GOP (read: President Bush's)policies actually affect African Americans?
How has their opposition to affirmative action affected enrollment in the nations top Universities?
What sort of message does it give that the Vice-President was unaware of the rising AIDS rate in African-American women until Gwen Iffel brought it up at the VP debates last fall?
How are African-Americans doing statistically in terms of health care, education, home-ownership?
How many minority communities are there in America like Bayview-Hunter's Point where infant mortality rates rival those of Bulgaria and Jamaica.
Let's also discuss the border communities of Texas, and what Bush did for them as governor (see
Molly Ivins' 'Shrub').
In fact, let's discuss this issue openly and air out why the Democrats are the party that takes the concerns of EVERYONE into consideration. If we do this, we can stick their noses in it like they were bad puppies in need of training.
After all, they brought the issue to our attention.
