Time for a flippant diary for me, since today was brain scan day. Hmm. Lots of uncertainty and more to come. MB's diary cuts a little close to the bone tonight. (And my, but MRI's are noisy, even through the headphones they give you so that they can talk to you in-between the scans). Anyway, time to get put my anorak on and head off to the second hand record store in order to bring you dove's top 5 (at present and in no particular order).
1) "The Partisan" Leonard Cohen Songs from a Room Somewhat apropos in these times, I think.
When they poured across the border
I was cautioned to surrender,
this I could not do;
I took my gun and vanished.
I have changed my name so often,
I've lost my wife and children
but I have many friends,
and some of them are with me.
2) "Troy" Sinead O'Connor
The Lion and the Cobra
For with apologies to Yeats
What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?
3) Children's Crusade, Sting
History's lessons drowned in red wine and all that.
4) Lucretia, My Reflection, Sisters of Mercy
I'll admit it -- I love pretty much everything Andrew Eldritch ever wrote.
5) Andy, The Front Lawn, Songs From the Front Lawn
How about you? What songs have been running through your head lately?
