Hi, everyone! Hope you are having a great day. Feeling a little anxious myself due to a huge, impending change in lifestyle. My husband and I are Ohioans who have been living in the coastal suburbs for the past ten years. We put our sosoCal ocean view McMansion up for sale last summer to heed Al Franken's call for blue state voters to move to Ohio.
Unfortunately, our house did not sell soon enough for us to help with the election. In light of the misdirection of this country, we decided to head east anyway. The house finally sold, and now, next Thursday, our journey begins.
We have purchased a 100 year old abandoned vaudeville theatre in the small farming village where I grew up. Population 1,900. We plan to create an ultra high tech family fun center that encourages learning and sharing, and a sense of history and tradition. We hope to open a coffee shop where locals can gather for political discourse. We want to produce thought-provoking theatre, and provide a venue for local talent. We hope to attract the rural hip. We're investing our life-savings in Main Street, U.S.A. Are you done laughing?
I kid my old classmates and neighbors. I'm sure they are very hip. And open to change and new ideas. From fruits and nuts from Caleeforneea. Them city slickers and their big idears.
I read a suggestion recently that we should visit blue dots in red states to encourage the economic success of those areas. So, what I really want to know is whether any of you Kosmopolitans would really ever venture out into the hinterlands. How far would you drive to support a fledgling enterprise offering Peace, Love, Hope and wireless internet access? Are there many of you, alone and afraid, out in the boonies of the great midwest, just waiting for a really great cappucino and a game of backgammon or Clue whilst discussing the meaning of Freedom and Liberty? Are you there? Please advise.
Back to packing.
