This may be in the diaries somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WVA) is co-sponsoring a bill that would
extend indecency regulations to cable and satellite media.
A bill teed up by Senators John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, D-W. Va., and Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, would not only subject cable and satellite to indecency rules, it would also authorize the Federal Communications Commission to regulate violence in TV programming.
The bill would additionally increase the maximum fine for a single indecency incident or for violent content to $500,000, subject to a cap of $3 million. The FCC would be given latitude to double fines for egregious cases, such as incidents in which the offensive material had been scripted in advance, and to reduce fines when appropriate for small and locally owned broadcasters.
West Virginia, or not, this is completely unacceptable. I know someone's going to say, "But he's a Democrat in a red state...", but I think the First Amendment is more important that that. If Rockafeller is going to be a part of the Indecency Brigade, then I say let him eat Joementum!
