State Rep. Jim Dunn (R-17) has, in his fantasy world, unilaterally amended the Constitution, because he doesn't believe part of what it says.
Dunn represents part of Clark County, WA, across the Columbia River from Portland, OR.
More below the fold.
Dunn made these comments in an article about the Washington Supreme Court taking up the case about gay marriage:
Gay marriage, religion raise passion of local lawmakers
Rep. Jim Dunn, R-Vancouver, said would he support such an amendment. Homosexual marriage is against his religion, he said.
"I don't believe in separation of church and state. There is no such thing in the Constitution," Dunn said.
"We can't separate religion from government," he said. "The only way we can do that is if we elected people of no faith, agnostics or atheists." (bold added)
But if you google "First Amendment" and click on one of the top few links, you wind up at a Cornell Law School site which, in part, states:
first amendment: an overview
Two clauses in the First Amendment guarantee freedom of religion. The establishment clause prohibits the government from passing legislation to establish an official religion or preferring one religion over another. It enforces the "separation of church and state."
Excuse me, didn't Dunn swear an oath to defend the US and Washington Constitutions? If he's not willing to defend them, perhaps he should resign.
