There's no secret weapon, but below the fold I have
some early suggested target demographics for the 2006 midterms based on opposition to Bush's Social Security plan.
I have been putting together an analysis of the 2004 election results with an eye towards using Bush's "plan" for Social Security unreform as a political tool. You can take a look at the full article
here. Not surprisingly, when looking at race, age, and gender, the most fruitful demographics to target are white and hispanic women age 45 and older. Interestingly, despite the workers being hurt the most by Bush's "plan" are those a shade younger than 55, it's more effective to target full-fledged senior citizens than those nearing senior citizenship.
In the coming days I'll put out a more detailed analysis that examines the importance of income, education, and church attendance. Stay tuned.
I'd really appreciate a recent poll on Social Security that includes crosstabs. They don't have to be as complete as the 2004 exit polls, but some understanding of which age groups, races, etc., are more or less likely to oppose Social Security unreform would be very helpful. Stick a link in the comments if you know where I can find one.
