Who would be your first guess about who made
this statement about Shrub's Social Security plan?
The congressman said many people think the president underestimated the cost of the Iraqi war, then overestimated the benefits of Medicare's prescription drug plan.
"And now, all the sudden, they wonder why people are a bit skeptical of their ... plan on Social Security," he said. "It's partly a credibility problem."
A dyed-in-the-wool liberal? Nope. Try Gil Gutknecht (R-MN1).
We're not talking about a moderate Repub here either. This is a guy who is one of the most conservative members of the House and probably the most conservative member of the Minnesota delegation (ACU rating of 94).
He's also a member of the Agriculture Committee (which I believe has jurisdiction over Social Security) and the Republican Study Committee. Translation--this is a pretty big "nyet."
