"JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia -- Candidates on a "golden list" backed by conservative clerics swept the final stage of Saudi Arabia's landmark municipal elections, according to results announced Saturday."
What I found particularly ironic and disturbing at the same time is how similar this is to the elections over here. Every candidate is practically required to make a public statement of faith. I'm curious how many votes Kerry had lost thanks to the likes of Papa Razi.
Are we that far off from a political system that is closed to anyone who's not officially (or unofficially) endorsed by the church?
