PowerLibel, err, I mean PowerLine has
this to say about the 1981 assasination attempt on the Pope:
From the PLO to Bulgaria to the Soviet Union, the ultimate responsibility of the KGB in the attempted assassination -- an attempt that must have been approved by Brezhnev and Andropov -- remains in the shadows. (Emphasis Mine.)
OK, I know very little about this, but that seems like wild speculation, and to state it in such a manner --- they "must" have approved of the assassination attempt on the Pope. This is Time's "Blog of the Year" people---completely irresponsible and ready to make the wildest of accusations. And at the same time, the PowerLine's and the Glenn Reynolds' of the world constantly push the meme that the "left" is out of touch with reality and pushing wild conspiracy theories.
Lest I be misunderstood, I obviously have no love for the Soviet Union, Brezhnev or anyone else associated with it. I'm glad they are gone, and the Soviets did a lot of worse things than attempt to assasinate the Pope, but let's not rewrite history here. Truth is such a rare thing in the right-wing of the blogosphere these days; isn't it.
