I had a hard time accepting this story as legitimate, I was so convinced that I was being Punk'd. As revolting as today's GOP platform is at times, I never thought the
Santorumizing of sex would gain any momentum.
For those who aren't as newsgeeky as I am, PA Senator Rick Santorum has equated homosexual sex to beastiality, which is as shocking to the civilized world as it is sensible to the Deliverance Republican base.
But the ugly face of beastiality has reared again, in the form of aptly-named anti-abortion terrorism advocate Neal Horsley. On the FOX News Radio program "The Alan Colmes Show," Horsley apparently freely admitted to engaging in beastiality as a youngster.
Continued below the fold.
"Is it true?" Colmes asked.
"Hey, Alan, if you want to accuse me of having sex when I was a fool, I did everything that crossed my mind that looked like I..."
AC: "You had sex with animals?"
NH: "Absolutely. I was a fool. When you grow up on a farm in Georgia, your first girlfriend is a mule."
AC: "I'm not so sure that that is so."
NH: "You didn't grow up on a farm in Georgia, did you?"
AC: "Are you suggesting that everybody who grows up on a farm in Georgia has a mule as a girlfriend?"
NH: It has historically been the case. You people are so far removed from the reality... Welcome to domestic life on the farm..."
I'm so proud to consider myself to be "far removed" from the reality of life on the farm in America, though I doubt it resembles this in most cases. And I do consider myself to be more enlightened than those who fear homosexuals, but that's beside the point.
The article linked above goes on to cite a few more extreme guests, too shy to admit having gay sex but not shy about advocating the death penalty for people who engage in sodomy. (Rev. Fred Phelps, who probably doesn't count due to sheer nuttiness.)
A decade ago, our country was not ready for the concept of masturbation as a safe and natural outlet for sexual development. But today, we are supposed to accept raping farm animals because it is a part of southern culture, and that's a part of America?
I grew up in the south. I never got laid, but I had something called "common sense." And for animals, I had respect, something that many extreme conservatives have not found in their hearts for the homosexual community.
I have no problem with the fact that Neal Horsley had an opportunity to share his opinions with the rest of us, and reveal what kind of man he is. What I find troubling is the fact that people like this are continually given a forum to add legitimacy to their positions. Horsley on the radio, Pat Robertson on his own network, Coulter on Time Magazine...each and every one of these extremists' opinions should be linked to George W. Bush (since they campaign for him), and he should be confronted with the ignorance and hatred that he has helped foster.
Update [2005-5-10 22:8:37 by captnjaq]:: I just flipped through the network evening news to see what they're filtering to us. ABC News was reporting on the Mayor of Spokane, WA who has been vehemently anti-gay in his politics. He is accused of soliciting a (phony) teenager online in a sting.
Of course, since the phony teenager was male, it is a "gay sex scandal."
So let me add "pedophilia" to the list of evils that are attributed to the homosexual community. I probably sound defensive at this point, but I'm not homosexual. I just know that if I were being lumped in with pedophiles and beastiality, and then categorized as "liberal" to boot, I'd be a bit pissed off, sister. Now I'm starting to realize why they think we're loonies. I think pedophiles and animal-humpers are sick, too! But guess what, kids. Sicknesses like these have no political party.
