Today is Primary Day in PA. Normally, as an Independent, you are not permitted to participate Pennsylvania Primaries, but today is different. Today there is a bond referendum on the ballot, which concerns the environment. According to my local Board of Elections you are permitted to go to the polls and vote on this referendum.
What is this about? Check below the fold. Then tell your fellow Independents about this issue.

Growing Greener
The ballot question states: "Do you favor authorizing the Commonwealth to borrow up to $625,000,000, for the maintenance and protection of the environment, open space and farmland preservation, watershed protection, abandoned mine reclamation, acid mine drainage remediation and other environmental initiatives?"
Message from Governor Edward G. Rendell:
For more than a year, I have worked with the General Assembly to secure a bond initiative called Growing Greener II, which would give us the tools to address some of our state's most pressing environmental problems. Growing Greener is a vital part of our effort to improve the quality of life in Pennsylvania, which will allow us to create new jobs, revitalize our communities and sustain our families.
On April 13, joined by members of our legislature, I signed into law House Bill 2, legislation that enables a $625 million bond referendum to be placed on the spring ballot. If approved by voters during the May 17 election, this will be the single largest investment in environmental programs in our state's history.
Recent statewide polls, show that you, the citizens of Pennsylvania, support issuing a bond to pay for programs critical to the preservation of the Commonwealth's environment, from protecting natural areas and working farms to cleaning our streams, rivers and lakes. I am proud that the legislature and this
administration were able to come to a consensus that we must continue to protect and care for our greatest treasure-our environment. We've done our part to get this ball rolling. Now as voters, it's time for you to do yours!
See what the passing of this bond initiative could mean for you!
