Contra Coffee?
Yes, blood coffee for blood money is
being marketed to American conservatives. When ordering Contra Coffee, you
can have it with cream of cocaine, blood black or with a bullet in the head.
In case you forgot,
the Contras were terrorists funded by the US to overthrow the socialist government
in Nicaragua. The socialists, in turn, had overthrown
Samoza, a brutal US-backed dictator. And, faced with an election loss, the
socialists backed down peacefully.
Here’s what Human Rights Watch had to say
about the Contras back when the Contras were fighting on behalf of US business
and political interests:
the contras were major and systematic violators of
the most basic standards of the laws of armed conflict, including by launching
indiscriminate attacks
on
civilians, selectively murdering non-combatants, and mistreating prisoners.

Contra Coffee is grown
by a collective of past Contra fighters. It's marketed by an American freeper
who also provides free market technical assistance to Central Americans.
Most likely the fighters had little to do with the CIA’s terror campaign
against civilians, or with the drug smuggling (more
info)
and illegal
arms dealing between the Reagan administration and the Contras. The farmers
who farm Contra Coffee could very well be ordinary people who were caught
up in a proxy war between the US and its Central American cheap labor and farming
force.
Millions of conservative Americans would love to buy gourmet coffee made
by those who fought alongside President Reagan against communism. It was just
a question
of marketing the coffee to the right people.

Buying
coffee from former Contra fighters is fine. But marketing it as “Contra
Café: Wake up with freedom fighters” is immoral. Why conservatives
think that free market terrorists deserve their own brand of coffee is beyond
me. Terrorism (attacking civilian targets) is morally wrong, regardless of
the ideology behind it.
