So I hear a lot of vitriol around these parts about the ol' D Trip C, mostly along the lines of:
"Ohhhh, woe is me!!!! The DCCC won't support my candidaaaaaaaaaate!!!! Why are they so meeeeeeean???!!!"
Well, I say screw that. If you are a Christine Cegelis fan - listen up! You are about to hear about the GCCC Challenge: Grassroots for Christine Cegelis for Congress - $20.06 for 2006.
We have the power!!!
(I think someone else said that once ... )
Christine is our candidate. We love Christine. We have canvassed for her. We have written letters for her. We have blogged for her. And we have cheered for her. Now, instead of just SAYING we support her, it is time to PROVE IT!
Christine knows that the secret to achieving the American dream is opportunity - to go to school, to get a stable job that pays a fair wage, to compete on a level playing field, to give your children a better life. She knows that America is built on the strength of its people, on their spirit, ingenuity, and patriotism. She knows that the government is of and for the people and that her job in Congress will be to fight to increase opportunities - economic and educational - to make the American dream a reality again.

We know we can't count on the Party to do all our work for us. But hey, I say we don't need no stinkin' party apparatus. We ARE the party! And really, how can we complain about groups like the DCCC who refuse to make the sacrifices to provide financial support to grassroots candidates if we are not willing to do that very thing ourselves???? Eh?
"I attribute the strength of my first campaign to the strong grassroots support I received and want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the amazing things you do out of love for our country. Being involved in the political process can be time-consuming. But I know you do it because, like me, you have a strong desire to make this country, and this world, a better place for the next generation. Thank you for your dedication. I hope you will join me again as we work to Reclaim the American Dream."

Fortunately, we have the power!
Let's use it!
Here is what you have to do:
a) Go here: http://tinyurl.com/a6vcl and donate $20.06. Yes, you. Right now. The donation will be made to the campaign, but by doing it from this website it will "count" toward our GCCC Challenge total.
Back from making your donation so soon???
b) Ask 20 people you know to do the same thing. Don't think you know 20 Cegelis supporters? Well, look in your address book. You DO know 20 people who are upset about the current state of our government! Tell them about Christine, about the need to take back the House, and about the importance of the Grassroots. Earn their support. Or heck, tell them to donate because it is something important to YOU. Even your Aunt Millie will give $20 bucks if you tell her this is something YOU care about.
And if you can donate more that $20.06, great, that will help the campaign even more. But part of our goal is to get 1,000 people to show with $$$ that they support Christine. That is the only language that some people will understand, and that support is what she desperately needs. If we have any hope of taking back our country, it starts right here.
Thanks.
P.S. Don't forget to do parts a) and b). Especially a). And b).
"[...] the world has changed and my college-age sons and their friends don't have the same opportunity that my grandfather, my father, and I have had. It's no longer a matter of just working hard. The cost of living is higher, jobs are harder to find, tuition costs are growing faster than wages or inflation, and federal support for educational grants is declining. You can't pay for college with a minimum wage job like I did. Families and students are incurring enormous debt loads to go to college. Some simply can't go at all. [...] So, as I watched my sons and their friends begin their journey to achieve their own dreams, I saw the doors of opportunity that were open for me and my family are closing for the generations that follow us. I simply could not let that happen."
