It is with relief that I'm putting up this diary announcing the Death of TxHB 1706.
This was a bill like many others that are being put up throughout the country that would have required Texans to present a photo i.d. or two forms of identification plus a voter's registration card in order to vote.
This bill was blocked by the signatures of 11 out of our 12 Senate Democrats. The Democrats have argued that the bill creates undo hardship for some voters, aids in disenfranchisement of some voters and could amount to the equivalent of a poll tax.
Let's commend our Democratic Senators for standing up to our Republican majority on a segment of what is arguably the most important issue facing America today. Voters Rights.
