Were you lying then? Or are you lying now? Colleen Truden, the embattled Aspen DA, has refused information on how much her husband was paid by her office, despite admitting to Garfield County commissioners that he was on the payroll. The GOP DA is also being contradicted by a former assistant, who said that he spoke out because Truden was misrepresenting what had gone on in the office that had led to the resignation of almost all experienced prosecutors in her office.
Truden is just following in the footsteps of her political idol:
Truden says:
"It's not lies, its just...bullshit."
The Colorado House passed legislation to ban smoking in public places yesterday, while voting down an "Academic Bill of Rights." The smoking ban will apply ONLY to restaurants.
Prayers go out to the family of Derrick Lutters (of Burlington, CO), who died Sunday in Iraq in a car bomb attack.
Please let this end.
Meanwhile, some evil bastard is hoaxing families of soldiers serving in Iraq. There's a special place in hell for people that would call family members telling them that their soldier has been wounded or killed as a "hoax." Right next to the swine that lied to send the soldiers over there.
Congrats to Ralph-pal Alphonse Keasley, who won a President's Diversity Award yesterday at CU.
CU's student government is the most diverse thing about the campus, showing that the students are way ahead of the administration when it comes to diversity. The newly elected student government will be meeting with the Boulder City Council this week to iron out problems between the University and the City.
So many stories about the failed Lotto software, not enough outrage about the failed Welfare software. I guarantee that the Lotto software gets fixed first.
Now that the Nuggets are finished, these Durango Pinatas get ready for their turn to take a damned good whacking.
US Senator Ken Salazar was disappointed in Gail Norton's decision not to help out the upper Colorado Basin states with water, he said as he opened his district office in Durango.
San Luis Chapel, from the Valley. If you have never been to the Valley, you don't know what your are missing. Thanks to SLV Dweller.
The Rocky has an interesting analysis of the jail vote, but since it doesn't include the absentee votes (which were about half the ballots cast), I'm not sure why they bothered. Essentially, support for the new jail came from Denver's wealthiest neighborhoods. They credit the Mayor's popularity as key.
The developer behind superslab is still moving ahead, despite two defeats in the Colorado legislature this year.
A Utah Republican questioned whether Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) should reconsider his partisan affiliation. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) says that Tancredo's anti-immigrant stand is hurting businesses looking for cheap labor.
"I don't know why they would say that."
Daily Surface Owners' Rights Blog.
Normally the room is so empty during government meetings your voice can echo. But on Tuesday, the Norwood Community Center was overflowing with area residents from all walks of life, from ranchers to realtors, looking for information about gas drilling and the rights of landowners. When federal gas and oil regulators asked the audience how many people owned property and had learned that their mineral rights had already been leased, nearly a quarter of the hands in the room were raised.
Meanwhile, when you go to fill up, keep in mind that oil companies have DOUBLED their profits in the last quarter.
More than 50 tickets were handed out in Steamboat yesterday in an effort to enforce the city's strict bear ordinances. Bear-proof trash containers are required for people that put their trash out early.
Only in Boulder: Most Boulder County Cinco de Mayo celebrations are going to be dry, even though the holiday was essentially thought up as a beerfest.
The US House and Senate have agreed to put money in the budget to clean up the Pueblo chemical depot without moving the mustard gas. Good Wayne Allard.
Wayne Allard voted against money for armor for HUMMV's in Iraq. Bad Wayne Allard.
"Ralph's got me dead to rights. I shouldn't have voted against the troops, but I want Rove to return my calls."
Allard got an earful about social security in Longmont yesterday, but it wasn't a clamor for the President's plan.
If there is a bigger curmudgeon in Colorado than Tom McAvoy, I don't know who it is. McAvoy says that the interbasin water bill the legislature passed was a Denver water grab. Josh Penry (R-Grand Junction) must be stooging for Denver Water then, eh, Tom? Speaking of which, the Vail Trail has an interesting op-ed concerning Denver Water and the Frasier River.
This will be a legal battle. Colorado Springs is about to lose wheelchair accessible taxi service.
Adam Clayton-Holland has a great first hand account of last weekend's protest at Focus on the Family.
