The
lack of security in Iraq:
Two powerful car bombs targeting a convoy of SUVs in central Baghdad killed 22 people Saturday, including two Americans, according to the U.S. Embassy. The embassy did not identify the Americans. The convoy was the sort used by foreign contractors and other VIPs.
The attack by suicide car bombers continued a relentless daily surge of violence that has claimed over 290 lives over the past eight days as a new government was being formed in Iraq.
The car bombs went off shortly after 11 a.m. local time (3 a.m. EDT) on Sadoun Street, a crowded commercial avenue. The explosion struck the convoy of GMCs as it had just crossed Al Jumhuriyya Bridge, and were merging onto Sadoun Street from a large traffic circle known as Tahrir Square.
No one is talking about turning corners anymore. But, in some ways, this is worse, as no one is talking about Iraq period. Are we now resigned to this reality?
