It is morning here in California, and today is the day that we might see true marriage equality voted in to law in the largest and richest state in the union. A bill is before the assembly that would institute same-sex marriage in California.
The vote is so close that no one knows how it will go. This is momentous and historic. The largest state, the second with gay marriage, the first with gay marriage instituted without court direction, etc.
but its getting very little 'action' item press...
Over the last week, I've reported on it
here,
here, and
here. Of course, I haven't been the only one,
Ortcutt has too.
I've seen it on a few papers, including a recent editorial in the SF Chronicle, but very few pleas for action (one from California Equality)
Except from the 'other' side. Of course you KNOW they are on top of this and have marshalled tens of thousands of 'church goers' to call their assemblymen and assemblywomen.
I know the quirks of the recommendation system of DailyKos means that many worthy items never make 'recommended', title, time, etc... but i would have hoped that one diary on this subject would have made it (ortcutt's, mine, anyones).
Yes, perhaps it is 'just' California, but as mentioned, it is the largest state and it would be historic (legislative) and together with Massachusetts, this would have a huge impact on the nation.
So, help get the word out...
here are some of the wavering... contact them (and if you aren't in california, check the other diaries, there are ways to help the future struggle too...
