Today's column in the Chicago Sun-Times by Andrew Greeley:
Expect terrorists to bring war to us.
This column should be coming from a prominant Democrat in Congress, however it comes from a Catholic Priest in Chicago.
We need more men and women to stand and speak with moral clarity on this war. There are those in the religious community, like Fr. Greeley and Rev. Jim Wallis. Rep. Conyers comes to mind, as do other members of Congress who have opposed the war and worked tirelessly to correct our course. The public is understanding that this war is wrong, and many feel so on a deeply moral level.
I echo others in this community and Fr. Greeley: those who would condone torture or turn a blind eye are morally bankrupt. Also, those that would not raise their voice lack moral courage. There are those that know that this war is wrong but would bite their tongues out of fear of politcal retaliation. Shame on them.
As I told Fr. Greeley in an email; "May God deliver us from these times by calling us home to our basic humility and inherent knowledge of what is right."
