This is great. Although Powerline has regrettably not come on board, several other conservative bloggers are starting to raise the argument that the Downing Street Memos are fake.
From Captain's Quarters
This, in fact, could very well be another case of "fake but accurate", where documents get created after the fact to support preconceived notions about what happened in the past. One fact certainly stands out -- Michael Smith cannot authenticate the copies. And absent that authentication, they lose their value as evidence of anything.
From All Things Conservative
I received some unbelievably nasty e-mails for originally saying the Downing St. memo was a fake. I still stand by that assertion, and it looks like the rest of the blogosphere is starting to back me up.
From Pirates Man Your Women
May be a fraud, of course. I kinda expect this by now.
From Blogs for Bush
It seems quite strange that the original memos, which are claimed by left to prove that the Bush administration lied about WMD intelligence to justify liberating Iraq (which, by the way, anyone who actually reads them would know they don't even do that) would be destroyed to protect the sources. Sounds oddly familiar doesn't it? Do the words 'fake but accurate' mean anything to you?

Downing Street Memogate? Fake but Accurate?
I should also add, this is a really interesting study in the way the right-wing echo chamber works. Captain's Quarters appears to be the first site to make the allegation, followed by several other sites using Captain Ed's assertion as fact.
