We appreciate that you have strong feelings about the war, the economy and about the military. In your letter, you come across as espousing insults such as "radical Republicans," "cry-baby conservatives," and "religious radicals."
Since we are a "community newspaper", we focus more on local issues than national issues. When writing your opinion about national issues, we will consider publishing a well-thought out explanation with actual proof to support your opinion. Please substantiate your claims.
For example, when you talk about an "illegal war", what makes it an illegal war? When you say the government refuses to tighten fuel-efficiency standards for automakers" or "to die in a foreign land so oil campanies can make record profits"
provide the proof.
Thanks,
Greg, Courier editor
The original LTE:
Where is the outrage? While the religious radicals scream about their "culture of life", our children die everyday in an Iraqi civil war that we started and in which countless Iraqis die. While Radical Republicans talk tough about being "strong on national defense" and cry-baby conservatives wring their hands over the removal of a feeding tube from one individual, our proud warriors lack the body armor, armored vehicles, adequate manpower, and leadership to survive combat in an illegal war.
Where is the sacrifice? While people complain about high gas prices for their gas-guzzling SUV's, and our government refuses to tighten fuel-efficiency standards for automakers; our national treasure bleeds into the Iraqi sand for oil. While cry-baby conservatives eliminate the "death tax" for the Paris Hiltons of America and Radical Republicans institute "tax relief" for the richest 1% of Americans, the poor and middle class send their sons and daughters, inadequately equipped, to die in a foreign land so oil companies can make record profits.
Where is the shame? While the First Lady jokes at a dinner about the President and a horse, not one word, prayer, or blessing is offered for our warriors. While PFC. England follows orders and goes to jail for prisoner abuse, the generals who issued those orders get a free pass and the author of the policy condoning this abuse is appointed Attorney General. While the Director of American Intelligence during its worse failure, while the mediocre general of America's "pre-emptive" Iraqi war, while the inept American Proconsul in Iraq who loses $9 billion, all receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom; the President refuses to attend the funeral of any American Warrior. And finally, while the man who murdered 3000 Americans is allowed to roam the world, while our military destroys itself in a senseless war, while our warriors die for corporate interests, while our country slides into a police state; our President's most pressing issue is to steal the social security of our citizens.
Ask yourself those 3 questions tonight when you look in the mirror.
