I woke up at 12:30AM Monday morning to the sound
of light rain and cut on the TV to see where Dennis
was. I turned on FOX and Joe somebody had the
storm South of Montgomery headed for Memphis.
The channel cut to a live report from a wet Steve on
Santa Rosa Island talking about the cleanup but
where is the storm NOW? I flipped to the
Weather Channel, and their map shows the storm
in Tuscaloosa headed for Memphis, but just then
they cut to a report from earlier about damage in
Panama City, some guy in a bright red shirt and
a bright blue tie--the suit is ok but take the shirt
and tie out and bury it.
I flipped to CNN, it's running beach shots and the
mayor of Panama City is talking about all the
work that will have to be done and I'm sure he
plans to turn in a big damage report but there are
people, like me, inland who would like to know where the
storm is NOW.
At 12:45AM I cut on my computer and went to
Memphis radar on NOAA but there were only
small spots of rain, then I went to Birmingham
radar and it showed a large cell
Northwest of the city but way East of the track
I had expected. The whole of the weather system
never reported the fact that Dennis went
to Nashville and not to Memphis.
Oh, who cares if a few folks in Crackerville
get drowned just as long as the mayor of
Panama City gets to plug his FEMA request.
Maybe we should just rename the National
Weather Service to The Beach Report and be
done with it. irsouth2
