I am with a group of students in the UK now, and I am conciously trying not to worry.
I do not buy the administration finding someone to arrest every time their poll numbers go plunging, but suddenly it is directly affecting me. And those for whom I am responsible. Fortunately it will be a few days before we have to travel and I am hoping things will be calm before then. But now I am looking at taking a few things in a clear carry bag, and no water brought on the plane (I get dehydrated easily). And one of my students is upset because she can't bring contact lens solution on board, and another student is going to Ireland to meet up with family, and short haul flights seem to have been cancelled today, and are cameras essential items to carry on board (someone heard that no electric devices are allowed, which means walkmen, I-pods, etc.) or are they electric devices to be stowed? And what do I do if it is stolen? Okay, okay, I must be calm. But I travel in and out of the Middle East with students and don't get freaked out as I am right now (we have had some disasters here already, but none potentially as problematic as this -- they say things come in threes).
Okay, okay, I just am upset and obsessive, but if you are here and looking at being in this situation, I would love to hear from you. I have missed you folks for two weeks and when I have to express my upset-ed-ness, you are the ones I am turning to for welcome. Thanks.
