MSNBC is currently linking to a
Newsweek column by Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball entitled with the link title
Journalists' case could embarass White House."
Of course, it's yesterday's news. But the fact that MSNBC.com is linking to it on its front page today is an extremely good sign.
The terror attacks in London are horrific, but if the Bush administration was hoping that they'd usurp coverage of "Plamegate," they're wrong. (I do
not believe, however, that the White house "let it happen on purpose" to cover up the Plame leak.) Stories about Miller's jailing are all over the national news column on Google News (she's sometimes referred to as a "martyr" -- now that's either
journalistic bias or extreme snark for you) and of course the NYT didn't take down
this morning's editorial.
In other words, the media are not giving up on this story, no matter how much Karl Rove hopes they will. It's an issue that hits close to home for any Washington correspondant, and they are not dropping the story.
So, Kossacks, I believe that Cooper's testimony will get ample media coverage. I believe that whoever was the "source" will be exposed to the public. I think these things will come to fruition.
And honestly, if I were a conniving Bush crony who wanted to distract the national media from Plamegate, I wouldn't rig a terrorist attack. I'd kidnap all the sharks from the Coney Island aquarium and let them loose off the Jersey Shore. Goodness knows what sort of media damage a few good shark attacks can do.
