Next month will be the 6th time I have marched in Washington DC in the past 25 years. The first 3 times were the National Gay Marches for Equal Rights and the last 2 times were against Bush's planned invasion of Iraq. Now it is time to put on my comfortable tennies again and keep pushing to end this Occupation of horrors. One must add to the crystals that Cindy Sheehan began and let them multiply.
People ask why I do it, and I tell them that these marches mean something to me and to the media, even if just for one day of coverage in their case. Every spark can start a fire somewhere and this needs to spread far and wide. I have marched in every national march for gay rights and look what is happening there, year by year we are adding domestic partnership laws and companies are adopting benefits for us and now gay marriage is being made the law of the land in many other countries and it is only a matter of time before it happens here- that is IF we keep pushing at every level.
The marches against the Vietnam War were successful because people did not let up in their protest. The same can happen again here if we mobilize enough people to keep turning the heat up on this sham of an Administration. If we can make cracks in the foundation of this Occupation while Fitzgerald works on the indictments of Rove and Libby we may just be able to topple this era of deceit and corruption or at the very least liquify Bush's base so we can slam dunk enough of the '06 mid-terms.
So please consider doing everything you can locally and if you can make it, help turn a march of hundreds of thousands into a march of millions. Sometimes it's just wonderful to look at the White House and the Capitol building and scream your head off, it's incredibly theraputic.
