things i know:
cooter leaked confidential information to multiple journalists
one of those 'journalists' was jeff gannon
jeff gannon had special white house access not based upon his credentials
jeff gannon is openly gay
in an investigation into the leak, cooter deliberately misled the grand jury and special prosecuter
things upon which i speculate:
cooter is closetedly gay
(although i readily admit this assertion to be speculative in nature, to me it seems a quite obvious truth. after having witnessed multiple interviews with cooter, i was quite shocked to learn that he is married.)
things which may follow if the above assertion is true:
jeff gannon had a special friend in the west wing who was able to secure gannon's access
cooter was gannon's special friend
cooter's special friendship with gannon may have been of the sexual variety
cooter's special friendship with gannon may not have been of the sexual variety
cooter exploited his power within the government to reward a special friend
first of all, i am quite aware of the baselessness of my accusations. i have seen no piece of evidence to suggest what i assert is true. but nevermind that for a minute. humor me, if you will, and suspend your disbelief in order to speculate about the implications if the assertion is true.
i don't mean to downplay the seriousness of the actual indictments leveled against cooter. nor do i mean to imply that homosexuality is improper. if in fact there was a sexual relationship between the two, if it was consensual, i don't see anything wrong with it (at least insofar as it doesn't affect the functioning of our government). however, i can't help but notice the potential irony here. if in fact there was a sexual relationship between cooter and gannon, what would it mean for the bush administration? how would the so-called 'moral majority' react? would this precipitate the facture of the republican coalition that i have long predicted? [as a quick aside: i have long held that the republicans are not a party; rather they are a coalition. they are a coalition of social conservatives and fiscal conservatives. despite their obvious differences, the coalition has remained in tact thus far because the modern coalition leaders have in fact been members of both constituencies. but i digress...]
although i do not absolve big dick from his role in this fiasco, i do believe that cooter's obstruction was not based solely in loyalty. i believe that there was at least some self-interest at play there. besides protecting (one of) his boss(es), i believe cooter was also trying to protect himself. the irony here, of course, is that we may have a situation where a senior white house official perjured and obstructed an investigation in order to hide a personal affair (pardon the pun). as sad as it sounds, i think that there are people in this country who would have more of a problem with the sexual relationship than the leaking of classified information. and while i normally don't engage in dirty politics, i do believe that cooter's outing of a cia agent makes him fair game to be outed himself.
am i way off here? to me this seems quite obvious. is it so obvious that no one is talking about it? or are people talking about it and i'm just not listening? i'd love read your thoughts on my theory as well as what it would mean for the administration.
