I received this in an email on a web dev mailing list. Just wanted to pass it on. This is a perfect example of what people can do to help each other.
The site is www.homesforkatrina.org and the purpose is to match those needing a place to stay with those will welcome them into their homes in the aftermath of this disaster.

I'm sending this to CFGuru and CFCDev because some of you know me or may
remember me for my early work with Fusebox. Today I created a site
www.homesforkatrina.org that will act as a matchmaking service for those who
temporarily need a place to live because of Katrina and those that have
extra room in their house. The site is nothing right now but a sign up form
to be kept informed. Please sign up and/or pass this link on to anyone you
think might be interested or post it in your blogs. I believe only a grass
roots movement will be able to handle something of this proportion.
Thanks. Let me know if you can offer anything (but not money) in way of
help.
