I think maybe Bush will come out of this okay because of his "I take responsibility" move. Since he's never owned up to an error before, the shock factor will jolt his defectors back in line ["See? Poor guy. He's a good man. A good man. He took resposibility."]
Never mind that, regardless of whether he's owning up to his disasters or not, he's always responsible for his administration's decisions: For the bonehead FEMA appointment, for his OWN slow response and indifference to the flooding, for the policies that made Americans world famous as torturers, for not doing anything to prevent future Abu Ghraibs, for miscalculations about the Iraq occupation, for Mission Accomplished, for Greeted as Liberators...
I forget who said this, but it was good: "30% of Americans would still support George Bush if he killed and ate their children." Watching the polls this week, I believe that's probably true.
And, as much as it pains me to say it, now that he's admitted his "first mistake," I'm afraid another 15% or 20% will support him out pity.
As I complained to my wife a couple days ago, if there was a vote tomorrow, that sum'bitch would still get re-elected.
