I wouldn't be attacking the United States any time soon. Instead...
I'd wait.
Why?
Ronald Reagan once famously said, "I've often wondered, what if all of us in the world discovered that we were threatened by a power from outer space, from another planet. Wouldn't we all of a sudden find that we didn't have any differences between us at all, we were all human beings, citizens of the world, and wouldn't we come together to fight that particular threat?"
After 9/11, this happened, though of course not on the planetary scale. America was attacked, and all Americans stood behind President Bush as one. Americans suddenly found that they didn't have that many differences at all.
Then Bush screwed it all up by going after Saddam instead of Osama.
Four years later, all the solidarity is out the window. We find an America that is horribly split, yet starting to figure out that their President has put them on the wrong track.
"Divide and Conquer" is a great war strategy. If that is bin Laden's strategy, then the worst thing he could do would be to attack us now. A divided country would probably rally around Bush once again.
No, he helped put America on the path to wage war with itself. Now all he has to do is sit back and bide his time.
