In the last few days Bush has really un-veiled the true colors of himself and his ilk for all to see. What has happened on the Gulf Coast prior to and since the hurricane is a disaster of the largest possible proportions for a country already reeling.
I'm not a religious person, my personal opinion is that religion, for the most part, is a giant mind control scam, a humungous guilt trip, much of it specifically targeting those not able to think independently to the benefit of those controlling the "religion".
Last night on Hannity & Colmes that as*hole Franklin Graham started to say that the tragedy down south is what happens when people stray from religion. Or words to that effect.
Fortunately, before the words were barely past his lips I was able to hit the remote and thus avoided throwing up. This on the same day when I had already read of the
religious right blaming gays for the destruction of New Orleans.
Big surprise. Well...Ok...I was surprised it took a couple of days.
Unfortunately, you won't hear the religious right (or left for that matter) saying that this hurricane was punishment inflicted on perpetrators of the Iraq tragedy, the policies of divide and conquer, with us or against us plus all the crap that the Bush Administration has pushed on the US and the rest of the world and so many have swallowed like so much chocolate pudding.
Not for the first time do I wish I am wrong. Wrong about there being a "supreme being". Wrong about there being a "judgment day". Wrong about there being a "hell" or "purgatory". Because if there is, then Bush and his buddies will reap what they have sown. They're not likely to pay for it while they still draw breath. Seems like for the most part that the American people don't have the will (nor the representation) to actually remove the schmuck from office.
But boy-oh-boy I sure do hope there is a God.
Unfortunately, the disaster for the country is not just Katrina. It's Bushco. And even without Katrina it will take years for the US to recover from Bush.
Now, who knows. Maybe Katrina will be the impetus that steers us towards a new day. A day of blazing light where all the crap of the last 5 or 6 years will be out in the open for ALL to see.
A day where the people will actually hold their representatives and senators accountable for what has been done in this country, allegedly in the name of the people.
Maybe it takes something like Katrina for the collective citizenry of this country to realize what is self-evident should anyone actually take the time to look, to think. That is this...politicians in this country do NOT represent the people, they represent their own ambitions and agendas. Sure they may "listen" occasionally, mainly when it's necessary to secure votes or campaign contributions. But once they are elected, fuggedaboudit.
Worlds greatest ever democracy? Greater than what, Iraq? Sure, I'll give you that one. But really, that seemingly omnipresent statement, its a load.
Here are some others that I find pretty sad..
Two party system. That's one more that North Korea. It's almost impossible to get elected in this country unless you are Republican / Democrat and loaded. It's a sick system, probably terminal. But really, who is going to change it?
By the people, for the people? Which people? The ones who raise over $100K?
No recall of the president? Why freaking' not!
Checks and balances? Where are they? Seems like the Executive branch can do what ever they want and no scrutiny is permitted. Permitted by whom? The people apparently have no say.
Executive privilege? C'mon. That's gotta be the biggest joke of all. This is the person that the people elect to the highest office in the land. The most powerful person in the world, allegedly. This person works for the people, right? Every spoken word, every written word, every fart issued forth from that individual, their appointees and counselors in the execution of the peoples business should be owned by the people. And those fuc*er's should be held accountable. ACCOUNTABLE!!!
50% voter turnout? Elections in this country are a freaking joke. Approximately 75% of voters DID NOT ELECT Bush in the past 2 elections. Then there are the issues of less than adequate facilities being provided in precincts not favorable to the GOP. C'mon people, that is vote tampering. Equal access for all, not just the chosen few needed to get your guy over the line.
Term limits? Not needed, trust me - I'm a Senator.
And one thing that has bugged me for years, where are the well regulated militia when you need them. Oh sorry, stupid question. The NG are doing something overseas and frankly, if the people of this country rose up in arms against the government, well, they'd be squashed like bugs. And I though that only happened in bad places, like China.
Excuse the rant!
