Even conservatives know that Ohio needs serious reform in its election system.
The conservative Ohio Taxpayers Association has endorsed three of the four proposed Reform Ohio Now amendments, including provisions to make it easier for Ohioans to vote by mail, the creation of an independent commission to draw fair district maps to promote competitive elections, and the creation of a bipartisan panel to oversee elections (instead of Secretaries of State who openly pull for candidates, i.e. Ken Blackwell).
From the Ohio Taxpayers Association Web site:
"Today, we have a Governor who has been indicted and convicted of ethical shenanigans, a state party chairman who has benefitted from a host of questionable consulting deals, and a group of house leaders who have apparently shaken down big corporations to pay their expenses.
At the same time, these officials have supported the growth of out of control state government and taxes. That's why we support State Issues 2, 4, and 5 to reform Ohio's political process."
They're not supporting Issue 3, which reduces individual campaign contribution limits from the currently insane $10,000 per individual, thus continuing to advocate for those with the most money having the biggest say in government, which is part of the reason Ohio government is so corrupt -- but you can't have everything.
