Speaking of Tom Delay, I am trying to figure out what to do about the future poop that will most surely spew forth from my son once he is born. I have 2 months or so to decide exactly how to diaper this child, and I would appreciate some feedbcak from those who may be in the know about such matters. A few things seem obvious to me:
1. Disposable diapers seem to be a colossal waste of several rescources. From the petroleum used to make them to the landfills that store them...forever...they just seem like a BAD idea.
(fliptastic)
Sure they are convenient, but the same inner nagging voice that scolded me into becoming a vegetarian is already starting to guilt me out of using disposables. I think this voice should be heeded, in general. BUT...
- Washing cloth diapers uses a lot of water, and could be bad for the environment in other ways. I use home heating oil for hot water, etc, so its not like I can avoid the oil game here. But is it worse to 'waste' water than to toss a disposable in the trash? I would think....not?
- I cannot train my child to be diaperless (an interesting phenomenon I had no idea existed until a few months ago, see link below). I will need to go back to work after a few months, at which point my husband will take over, Mr Mom style. He will not be able to provide the attention needed to read a baby's subtle poop clues. Nothing against my husband, I simply don't see this working successfully. Especially during baseball season.
I am considering buying some Fuzzi Bunz, which are rather pricy microfiber cloth diapers (again with the petroleum...but at least I can re-use them). But before I make this investment I feel like to be REALLY sure that I want to go this route. Its a big responsibility tending to someone else's poop.
So, what did all you folks do? I'm new at this.

You know what else is sort of funny, if you google 'diaperless babies' the first few pages of links are all right wing sites. Diaperless babies are apparently another way Greens and Liberals are screwing up this world.
