As you may have heard, Tom DeLay has been ordered to appear before a judge in Texas to face the conspiracy charge against him. Common knowledge, eh? But this paragraph, from the CNN article on the subject jumped out at me:
"DeLay was summoned by a judge to appear in court in Austin on Oct. 21, but his lawyers are working to spare him the humiliation of being handcuffed, photographed and fingerprinted."
Good lord, why spare him the humiliation?
Dude, you've been indicted. And part of being indicted, m'friend, is facing the necessary but doleful music of getting booked. Truly, an unpleasant experience, but them's the rules. Fingerprint that Hammer and give us a mugshot we can salivate over (we haven't had a really good mugshot since Michael Jackson's deer-in-the-headlights shot or Nick Nolte's I-just-crawled-out-of-a-dumpster pic).
Of course, the picture we all look forward to seeing is the one of Tom in his orange jumpsuit, but we'll take what we can get. For now.
