I have friends who reside on the MS Gulf Coast, in the town of Long Beach, MS. They escaped Katrina unscathed, and when they went back to check on their home, they found it was in great condition. However...all was not okay. Instead, it turned out that my friends were forced to leave their home.
My friend in fact was arrested by the police for wanting to stay at the home! The reason? The house is the south of the railroad tracks, and thus has to be razed.
The home was in perfect condition. As of right now, it seems any home south of the tracks in Mississippi will be razed, whether or not it is in good or bad condition. These home are going to be bulldozed, PERIOD! My friends, thinking they were spared, now are going to lose everything. They do not have insurance to cover the loss of the entire home. PLEASE, contact your senators, your congressmen, the media, anyone, to help rectify this horribly unjust situation. Those who were spared Katrina's wrath now have to face the government's wrath. These people are being written off as if they don't exist, but they do. And lives are being destroyed.
