Looks like we won't be cleaning up the disastrous mess we made of Iraq's infrastruction, after all. Done spent all the money on 'security'. Sorry, Iraqi's! Maybe someone else will fix it back for you.
(This article was headlined in the Guardian's online edition as of about 30 minutes ago. I just went back to reference it and it was GONE! Googled it and got a link. Read it before it vanishes!)
"IRAQ REBUILDING UNDER THREAT AS US RUNS OUT OF MONEY" from the Sept 9th Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1566176,00.html
"Key rebuilding projects in Iraq are grinding to a halt because American money is running out and security has diverted funds intended for electricity, water and sanitation, according to US officials.
Plans to overhaul the country's infrastructure have been downsized, postponed or abandoned because the $24bn (£13bn) budget approved by Congress has been dwarfed by the scale of the task."
The FUBAR President. I close my eyes and imagine him behind that podium chanting "I am a FUBAR President!..."
Now, this article mentions that electricity is not so bad. Sorry, I get my Bagdhad news from Riverbend. All other basic services are screwed. It also quotes Republican lawmakers admitting we made a huge mess and can't afford to fix it.
Most of the money you and I have paid to 'rebuild' has been going to security contractors, apparently. Some are collecting $1,000 a DAY to protect Halliburton, KBR, et al.
Now who is going to fix what we broke? Who is to blame in this round of the Blame Game? Must be the Iraqi's of course. They are the ones who stayed behind when it was clear that they should evacuate in the face of Bush's Storm. It's a bad idea to rebuild Iraq anyway. It's just going to go under again whenever the civil war erupts. They're better off now, they were underpriviledged before anyway.
The FUBAR President.
